It's a standard fine thread bolt. Your best is a impact gun. second best is a big breaker bar. If you can't budge it with the above there is one sure fire way of removing it. I hesitate mentioning it but it works every time. UNPLUG THE COIL WIRE then put your 6 point socket on the bolt and bump the starter. ( Cheap Impact wrench) :)
Thanks paso. I'll try the breaker bar method now that I know its a standard thread bolt. I wasn't sure if I was turning the sucker the wrong way. Stupid question but I won't effect the balancer by removing this pulley?
Wait, your crank pulley is held on by 3 bolts which attach to the harmonic damper. If you are just trying to remove the pulley, you do not need to remove the center bolt, just the three smaller bolts. If they are off, just knock it with a peice of wood if it's stuck.
I removed the three bolts that hold the crank pulley. HOWEVER, someone was in there before an put a 1/4" thick steel washer between the center bolt and the pulley. This thick disk was holding the pulley in place. Finally got it off. Does anyone know if that disk is factory?? The assembley manual shows a split washer/flat washer combination under the center balancing bolt. No idea why that thick washer was there......bubba?
No, the disk is not factory, just the split lockwasher that you described. How thick is the disc? Perhaps the previous owner used a bolt that was too long and the disc is acting like a spacer?
The disk is 1/4" thick!! The bolt appears to be the original "A" headmark. I ran it back in and everything looks ok. Is it possible that the balancer moved back? Is the balancer on a spline? This one has got me scratching my head.
Err, my car is decomishioned right now because, while driving down the road, my crank pulley FELL OFF! The belts caught it and it's still there, haven't had a chance to look at it fully. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN!? :mad
