I've just picked up a Goodwrench 350 290 HP H O engine to install in my 78 Silver Annaversary. Is there a clearance issue with an eight inch balancer? Which balancer do you prefer? The stock engine has the smaller balancer on it. All opinions welcome
The L-82 engine option used the larger 8" balancer. There is no clearance issue. If you're looking to replace with a stock style unit. I have heard that Pioneer was either the OEM, or is the closest to OEM for a SBC.
Vizard recommends going with the largest diameter possible by the way, but his book was also written prior to the TCI Rattler designs being constructed. I have heard they are really awesome.

I put a Summit 8 inch on my 383 and was concerned with clearence too, however, when I set the engine down in the frame, there was plenty of room.
Discussions have been that the 8 inch does a "better" job at balancing the rotating assy when rotating. It would also require a tad more HP and would demish the RPM quickness (all I cannot confirm yet).
