Steering Box Ratios
I am wondering, what are the stock box ratios for the different year C3's? I have heard of a real close ratio box (like 12:1 or 14:1), that was possibly aluminum, in the early to mid 70's, but it may just be talk. Anyone got any input?

Believe they're all 16.1:1, with overall ratios being either 20.2:1 (rear hole steering knuckle arm) or 17.6:1 (all late C3 quick/front hole...). For those with bumpsteer blocks the overall ratio probably works out to ~18.9:1.

I do not know what the ratio is, but I used the Jeep gearbox conversion on my 1980 and the steering wheel now turns only 2 turns lock to lock! Very fast and I like it. I also got rid of the steering ram, control valve and all the leaky hoses that go with them.

If anyone is looking for a good Jeep steering box I have one. I was going to do this a year or so ago and purchased a 2002 box with 6000 miles on it. Pretty much looks like new. I'll let it go pretty cheap. If interested let me know. I can send a few pics if needed. Just gathering dust in my basement.
