Being new, and trying to get as much as info as I can get before buying a C3 model, I just would like your opinion / advice on the 82-models with the fuel-injection.
Friend of mine ( here in Belgium ) told me definitely to stay away from this buildyear, and to go for an older model with carburetors.
What is your opinion on this ???
All feedback is appreciated
owned a 82 collector edition for 17,000 mi. did not care for cross fire setup and absolutely did not like transmission constantly hunting all over looking for right gear to be in. should have kept 4 speeds available for 82.
If you take the time to learn about the crossfire, it is really a simple set up. There is a curve to learning though. The only real problem is they are prone to vacumn leaks.
because there's nothing wrong with the L83. If maintained properly. But if you don't maintain a carbed engine it will start to run like crap after a while also. TBI fuel injection is very reliable.
http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/cftest/they have a forum that will tell you all you need to know about the cross-fire .if you are going to hot rod, think carb .if you want a good driver with good mpg the cross- fire is for you .you can make up to 400 hp with the cross-fire .i get 20 to 22mpg .cross-fires get a bad rap because 1982 was the first year ,and there were alot of people that could not figure out a throttle body .those same people may not like any injection system.
82 is a nice looking car, and it can be kept running well in its original configuration if it is well maintained. As you are in Europe, I am not sure how smog laws apply to you. It it is possible however to switch to carburator, add headers and a better cam to provide immediate performance improvement. There are better heads, but the improvements in performance and mileage with stock setup in the 82 and 84 cars were fairly eye opening compared to 75 - 81 Vettes. In the USA, it is common to go to a slightly older car because they are exempt from smog laws. This may not help much, but it gives you some idea of things to think about. I guess, since you are in EU, the choices of vehicles to buy are limited as well. Pick the best car for the money, unless you are just really intent on a specific year.
As above, if in decent shape and tuned properly they run just fine. One thing I found though around town is to keep it in 3rd instead of Drive. Keeps it from going into OD off and on. Also depends on driving style.

82's are sometimes let go cheaper because something minor has gone and the owner doesn't know enough about the system to fix it. You have a bit of an edge. You can find a nice car for relatively cheap. Once you understand the system its pretty easy to work on.
Personally i wouldn't know how to set up a carb car.
