Default Distributor question

Would having my dizzy off by a gear make is so that I have to have it advanced alot, which in turn makes it so my idle screw is useless? My screw is as far out as it can be and still drop the idle down yet it is at around 1000-1100 rpms. I tried dialing back my timing to a total of 36 and it just wouldn't run right. So I bumped it back up and it is not the same as before it seems to stumble below 2k. I guess it is time to order a piston stop to check my timing tab.

which tooth its in only effects which way your cap is pointed when you get it timed right

more and less air and fuel gets you more and less rpms

I bought it new off the shelf a year ago. I just waited a long time to try and get it adjusted since I don't really know how.

There is on;y one screw on the drivers side. But for some reason I got the idle to go down more. I think the throttle cable may have been binding on the little plastic cover at the end of it. as for the timing, I know my adjustable pointer is off, or it is my timing chain which I sure hope not. I pretty much adjusted the timing by hand and throttle response. I got it pretty good I think, doesn't stumble or anything and makes first and second gear useless if you rev it up a bit, dump the clutch and pin it. I adjusted the idle screws for max vac. Ended up getting about 11 inches compared to the 9.5 it was at when I started. Now I just need to figure out how to do the jets so I can make max horsepower. Lucky the traction bar is coming end of this week.
