I have a 77 with a stock 350 engine, and want some more power to play with. Was thinking of tuning my 350, but found someone who have a 73 454 corvette engine for sale!
Is it hard to do the bigblokk conversion in my car? (orginal 350)
Do i need to change many other parts ?
do you live in a state that requires emission testing? could be a problem. otherwise, new brackets for ps,alt,a/c, new hood, radiator(you might get by with a good aluminum unit, but if you have to change, you'll also need a new rad support). it can be done, but it'll be a lot of work ($$$$). building up your 350 would be a lot easier. goto a 383?

How much does he want for the 454 ? If it's a good buy and you have the coin it would be worth to pick up and hold on to for a project car or just to keep around so when the wifie gets you pissed off you can go to the garage and rub her valve covers
Hello,
you may have to consider the extra weight that the 454 would have, and then check on the springs. The radiators were different also, and that would have to be replaced.
The 454 would certainly be a more torquey engine than the 350 but it is still only a 275 HP engine (and that's in brand-new condition). Unless you can get it for almost nothing you could do a lot better with a new 350 crate engine. If the owner claims to have increased the Hp, ask for receipts for the parts and work done.
I did a 427 in a 74. It was easy. Backets P/S, Alt, A/C came from Dr Rebuild. Engine mounts, headers and Dual electric fans finish it off. I used the stock exhaust, 4 core radiator, trans, distributor, front springs (lowered car 1 inch) ect... The hardest part was adapting the exhaut but Jegs now offers an offset pipe set for just this type of application
Does the engine still have the Corvette assy brackets? That would same some $. Once you collect all the part its just a bolt in and all of the stock BB Corvette parts will work.
A BB drops into the car just as the SB did and bolts up to the trans the same. I have done this in the past with Corvettes and Camaros and it is not any more work. You just need all the assy brackets and you may have to work with the throttle connection and exhaust. Many options for exhaust.
