Default Small gauge cluster...HELP

O.K., I have spent a ton of hours working on replacing my small gauge cluster and I have finally finished getting it in with everything working!

But now I need a little help. Can someone tell me how to attach the gauge cluster to the main bezel? When I took it apart I remember them fitting together tightly. Now the gauge cluster keeps sliding off the main bezel. What I mean by the main bezel is the big black bezel that the wiper bezel and the radio face attaches to.

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Andy
p.s. this is for a '68

Screws hold the cluster to the bezel.

Where do the screws go? I don't have any holes in my large black bezel. I
don't remember taking them out.

That is a great picture! Thanks, I'll have to go back and look. I just hope I don't have to unplug any of the gauges. This was not a pleasant little project.

Thanks again to both of you guys!

In my 69, I found about 5-6 little pieces of black semi flexible plastic, maybe 3/8" long, that fell out when I dismantled the gauge assembly. Never saw where they came from.

When I put the two halves back together, (w/o the little plastic pieces), I realized they were there to act as a cushion between the two halves, maybe to prevent rattling. I took it back apart and put them around the perimeter and the fit was much better.

Thought I'd throw that out there before you screw the cluster to the bezel and reinstall it in the dash!

After you've done it three or four times, you get the hang of it.

Champs85,
I found those same black pieces. My were wedged between the black bezel and the clear plastic lens. I think it's to keep a tight fit and keep dust out of the gauges. Maybe I'll see if they work better between the two pieces of the cluster.

Thanks, Andy

Andy,

I put some yellow tape where those little pieces go.

The foam you are finding is an anti rattle pad for the lens.

You can purchase a 1/16” length of rubber roll at a hobby shop and cut these to the correct length. They work great and crush properly when you install the lens.

Without them, the lens will rattle! At least they do with the cam in my 72, well everything rattles from the cam in this car!

DZ Rick,
Thanks! That's where I found mine when I took it apart. I successfully got everything back together and it looks great.

I did get the screws in. It turns out that they were not there when I took it apart; thanks Bubba! I picked up some machine screws at Lowes and it worked like a charm.

Again, thanks for everyone's help.

Andy
