My wipers won't stop working. They almost shut down when I turn them off but they won't stay stopped. They keep "pulsing" up and down about 2 inches. The door wants to close but just jams against the wipers which are still moving. I have to use the override switch to make them stop. Any ideas where to start looking?
They're going into park and staying there, that's whats causing them to jump 2 inches. One possibility is the contacts on the park pawl switch inside the wiper motor are not breaking contact. The other is the switch itself is not shutting off in the off position and the ground circuit is not being broken.
What's supposed to happen is when the switch is in the off position, the ground is broken and the wiper motor will cycle one revolution then turn off.
When you use the overide switch you're breaking the ground circuit.
Another thought, on the three wire harness plug at the wiper motor, the red wire is constant 12 volts, the brown wire only has 12 volts when the motor is switched on, when switched off the brown wire should have no voltage. If the brown wire stays hot when the wiper switch is turned off then the contacts inside the park pawl switch have fused together.
Welcome to the world of the 68 wiper motor!
