Alt is not recharging the battery. I read 13.85V at the + terminal of the battery and at the Bat + on the Alt. Revving the eng gets no change at either terminal. My service manual says that there is a large resistance between No 2 term. on the Alt to ground. I read 14.8K. Thats not large. Any one know what I should read from pin 2 to ground on a GM alt? Thanks
6'rr...... I read 13.8 with engine running at both the battery + and the bat+ out of the alt. The true check is current based. The max load is stamped on the alt SOMEWHERE below I can't see it . Another way to think about this is from the Alt rather the Battery. If cell[s] were shorted the bat is toast and won't recharge. This battery accepts a charge.
The battery accepts a charge from an external source, like a battery charger?
If so, then there is something strange going on. It doesn't matter what the current rating is on the alternator. If you have 13.8+ volts at the battery with the engine up off idle it SHOULD be taking a charge.
My car is wired with a ground and a power wire from the alternatoe directly to the battery. Check all the connections to and from the battery closely.
Where exactly did you have the meter probes on the battery?
