When I start the car the "check Engine" light stays on and the car only runs for a few seconds. Upon second try I can't get it to turn over.
I put a paper clip the diagnostic port and turned the key to read codes and HEARD a rather strong and loud CLICK. Didn't sound harmful but mechanical like something released in the engine compartment. So what the hell, I cranked the key and the car started up and ran fine. I took it out for a cruise and all was well.
NOW, every time I start the car I have to put a paper clip in the diagnostic port and turn the key. Something clicks/releases(?) and the car cranks and runs fine.
What the hell it this? Starter getting stuck? Oil pressure switch?
I know very little about crossfires but I do know that the mechanical click that you described is similar to the clicking of the mixture solenoid in the 81s when you run the diagnostic. I think the click is normal. What your describing obut getting it running I really don't think is.

Isn't there a crossfire forum here somewhaere?
I'll keep that in mind but I was studying the Crossfire Injection system a few weeks ago on another issue and this doesn't appear to be fuel injection related.
It's clear that something is resetting. I could tell when it's only going to run a few seconds by the length of time the C.E. light stays on. When the C.E. light goes out so does the engine. I'll plug(paper clip) the diagnostic port for codes, turn the key and "click" from the engine. Turn the key and it starts strong. I'll need someone to listen around the engine and locate the click.
I did install a new positive battery cable this week and the starter screeched ONCE yesterday. Prior to that I didn't have this issue. Hmmm.

Reason: grammar, it's late.
I couldn't do much today aside from have someone listen for the click in the engine and it turned out to be the Hood Louvre Solenoid clicking open. I watched it open and close as I wiggled a paper clip in the diagnostic port. Could this be my problem? Would a bad Hood Louvre Solenoid or HL W.O.T. Solenoid Relay cause the check engine light to come on and shut the engine down?
The click is normal. What codes come up? Have you checked all (4) ground wires?
No codes. I checked the wiring on the hood louvre and they were reversed. That was odd but the problem isn't there. I'll have time later to check the ground wires. Hopefully I can resolve this issue before I drop the car off for new tires later in the week.

Ok, I've been looking for a diagram that shows WHERE the (4) grounding wires are and I can't fine it. Can someone tell me where they are and what they look like?
1. starts, c.e.light on for 10+ sec. and choke when the c.e.light goes off.
2. Plug in the diagnostic tool for codes, remove it and the car starts fine.
*Found this out today.
After #1. mentioned above, if I try to start it again the pump won't prime or pump. However, there's something reseting somewhere as a result of #2 that'll let me start the car.
