I'm getting ready to install my exhaust pipes onto the exhaust manifolds (1970 SB)and noticed that the new GM "doughnut" gaskets are not symetrical ---------- There is a chamfered metal ring surrounding the doughnut which is significantly closer to one side then the other. ------------ So, there is very little gasket material out board the metal ring and quite alot more angled gasket material on the other side.
My question is: which side goes into the manifold and which side goes into the flared end of the exhaust pipe?
It may not make much difference, but there must be a reason why the doughnut is not symetrical.
Can you post a pic of the doughnut? It sounds like you are talking about the tubing that goes inside the doughnut that keeps it from being pushed inward. If thats the case that goes down inside the exhaust pipe.
