would buying a new distributer make any horsepower as opposed to the stocker?

I like the compact look of the MSD pro billet distributor, MSD 6 or 6 AL ignition and Blaster coil. But that’s just me.

If the stock setup is working and is adjusted properly there will be no gain in HP. I ran the stock dist for years in mine with a Crane Hi6 box. Very similar to the MSD setup It worked great and ran very well to 7000 rpm. I have since put in a MSD dist because I got a good price on it and it is easier to mess with the adjustments. I now have 2 MSD dist. One with vacuum advance one without.
To answer your question if your dist is not worn out just a good tune up and maybe a slightly hotter coil could not hurt.

It won't give you a kick in the pants horsepower increase but you need a good ignition as a base line. if you add nitrous, supecharge or increase compression a higher voltage will help the spark jump the plug gap.

my second option has essentially the same specs as your setup clint i think? Puts out same amount of voltage, rev limiter, CD and also the price looks good compared to the setup you have. Gordon you say there would be no horsepower increase with this setup? or just simply changing distributors?

If you are on a budget and just want a HP increase I would not spend money on a new ignition. If you plan to make other upgrades, like the look of cool stuff and want to impress your buddies buy what ever you like.

well eventually the car will be running 12's probably next summer im hoping for. It already has a true dual exhaust i wanted to upgrade the electrical first so i wouldnt have to later on when the higher performance mods come in. Carb would be next followed by headers and to top it off probably a 100 shot.

Sounds like a plan. The higher voltage will help the spark when you hit it with the 100 shot. Good luck!

If you plan on upgrades or spraying the motor than it is worth it. I run the ignition box because of the cam I run. The multiple spark at lower rpms really clean up the throttle resonse due to the rich mixture and long overlap cam. I also wanted a rev limiter which has come in handy many times on missed shifts. On a stock to mild motor probably won't see any difference, as the mods go up the ignition will help.
