Generally, with a 4" backspacing, when you get to 10" wide you need flares. You can get stock 4" backspacing and 8" wide no problem.
If you want 10" but don't want flares, you'll want offset trailing arms, which will allow a larger backspacing.

Widest wheel that can be used without flares is a 10' wheel/tire. To keep it under/at the lip you must use a 5 1/2 backspace. You don't need offset trailing arms or a shortened rear spring if you use an 18" wheel. You can't use a rear sway bar with this combo and the parking brake cable must be relocated to the inside of the trailing arm. Complications arise if you use a 17" or smaller diameter rim. There can be interference with the rear spring. Offset or double offset arms can be used and a shorter spring becomes mandatory.

ok. i am just thinking about some 15 in. draglites. i want to go with the big/little combo and wanted to know what to order for the rear. i am almost clueless about how much backspacing to order, with or without the wider rim. i am not opposed to eliminating the rear sway bar, but am not gonna go thru the trouble of the offsets just to get some shiny rims on my car.
