"DB" would it wise to use the Self A ones or do you think the guides will work at high revs? In your words do you think it would be wise to purchase the Selfers as opposed to using guide plates?

I think if you're going to be 'rough' on the engine then guide plates and hardened push rods will be a better choice. However, make sure that the bottoms of the rockers don't come in contact with the base of the stud. The guide plates will raise the stud up, and in some cases create a clearance problem and you can't get the rockers adjusted without contact. Not always, but just be careful of it when you're assembling it and setting the rockers. Also, you want the tips of the rockers to pattern in the middle of the valve stem.
I used vortec heads on my stockcar and also had heard of the favoring of one casting over another, so I decided to do a test. I did a low tech comparison of both a 906 and a 062 casting. I had one of each on my bench and took both intake and exhaust valves out and then proceeded to make some measured and visual comparisons. Everything I measured and looked at was so close to one another that I'd say they were the same. I paid special attention to both of the valves and seats and determined that they were identical.
I think I remember reading that it was the early version that had a lower flowing exhaust seat, but since then the seats have been changed to reflect the better flowing ones.
I also looked at a vortec head once at a swap meet that had the nicely curved short side radius but did not have the heart shaped chamber. I'm not sure what that head came off of but I would stay away from anything without that heart shaped chamber.
I hope this bit of info helps.
buy a brand new set of vortecs from jegs...i did this in february $550 for everything plus free shipping!! works great! they are also stronger and have better seals if i'm not mistaken.
Don't rule out the new Bowtie Vortecs for higher hp/cube applications. I'm building a 406 with a set of their newly revised 225cc runner heads, look like they'll make great power. Should have dyno results within about a month.

Any thoughts...I'm not trying hit MACH speeds or anything that's why I have a sport bike. But just a little pep in the step!
the only place you will see anything is here on the front and back of the heads. all it says is GM performance parts with the flag logo. doesnt actually say fastburn.once the heads are covered with brackets for alt and aircon you dont see much of it at all.
