*Vette Running Lean, then no start*
I recently installed a 406 and it was popping through the exhaust. The headlights and other vacuum accessories were running through the carb. I moved the vacuum accessories to run off the intake and the popping went away.
I went on a short trip (5 miles) the other day and it started hesitating and wanted to stall. I shut it down and it wouldn't start again.
What should I look at first? Ignition problems?
Let me know if you need any other info on the car.
A master tech once told me of a way to test for an intake leak from inside the lifter valley...the bottom of the intake runners can leak from the bottom of the gasket. He would pull the PCV valve out, and introduce propane into the lifter valley. If the RPMs don't change at all then there is no leak from the bottom side of the intake. Then he would plug the PCV back in, and it would suck in all the propane and the RPMs would jump. You can test the tops of the intake runner gaskets by spraying ether all along those edges and listening for a change in RPM.
