Cheapest EFI
I went with the FAST xfi setup on my new 427, but I am still working out he intake issues. Just ordered a ported/efi setup Motown intake and a FAST 1375 throttle body, should work better. I have a LOT of money into this option though.
$3.3k computer, harness, dual sync distributor
$500 for 48 lb injectors
$550 for the new FAST throttle body
$1100 for the new ported Motown intake
So about $5500 not counting the MSD 6a and coil and fuel system upgrades. Ridiculous really, but I can't turn back now.
MY approach would be to get a 58mm tbody, LT1 intake, 1227730 speed density computer, and various senders/sensors Motors off the net or a junkyard....then go for it.....the LT intake will need modded, and it's aluminum, I did one for my L98 355 engine and it's fine, done last winter with 52 mm tbody....you will have to do your own wiring harness at any rate, so you may as well just junkyard the whole thing outta whatever donor you can find, and cut/solder/splice/tape it up neatly....
this way you out for less than a grand, really.....hell, for the LT intake WITH rails, but no injectors....150 at my door....injectors...off here or ebay....60 bux....24 lbs late LT 1-4 injectors....want larger?? shop around....run a couple cans of Techron FI cleaner in a couple tanks of gas clean them right up.....fuel pump is Auto zone Master craft less than 100 bux.....relays and such are junkyard ......for the connectors at minimum....
you getting into a project you going to have to do wiring, layout, assy, modfications soldering, crimping, anyway, why in hell spend tons of bux for someone to do that......get a aftermarket cal pack/chip assy from Formatto, or PCM for less.....only about 150 bux....
that LT intake WILL work on your earlier engine but you will have to do some machine work, and TIG it up in spots....
once again, if I can do it...so can YOU....
It seems whenever a new, improved gadget, widgit, whatever, comes out, we want it. The technology is always improving, and always will.
My Pro-Flo cost something like $2400 and was for Vortec heads, which upped the cost some. It was money well spent.
