Default 1.6 Rockers? Can I use them

Hi all
I am finding out more and more about the vette i bought last yesr, I see that it has 1.5 stamped roller tip rockers on them now. My question is I have world product S/R Torquer cast iron heads on the car now, can i go with 1.6 or 1.7 rockers to help improve performance on these heads. If so any recomendations on a decent brand name for the price?

I went with Comp cams pro magnum rollers on my 540 and they held up great so far

Check out Competition products in Oshkosh they have it all in stock and allot of helpfull tech guys there too

Nice they are so close, when I bought my 540 dart block I saved the shipping cost and drove down there

To answer your question in short yes you should be fine. You will probably need to go with tall valve covers especially if you go with roller rockers.
As for Competition Products I have a different view of them. I bought their aluminum heads and several other components and their tech department was the worst I have dealt with. If I had taken their advice I would have a set of worthless heads and eight pistons to replace. Their customer service is at the bottom of the barrel also (you have a problem….Tuff). In short I would not give them anymore of my business and I would like to keep them from getting any more. I don’t enjoy bashing a business, but I make an exception for them.

Actually, you probably won't be fine. The 1.6:1 ratio rockers move the push rod in closer to the centerline of the heads. Typically the pushrods will then rub on the head or will not meet the rocker because the head is in the way.

That's why they make and sell this tool:

and this one:

Your aftermarket heads are probably already elongated for 1.6 rockers but depending on your build the pushrod slot, piston to valve clearance, and coil bind should all be checked.

Maybe Im off base here, but when I made the decision to go with 1.6 roller rockers the things I needed to check were:

(1) Piston to valve gap with higher ratio rockers to make sure I wasnt slapping valves and pistons

(2) Check to make sure the springs installed can handle the additional lift (not knowing what cam you are using)

(2) push rod clearence in the heads (already mentioned elogated pushrod openings)

(3) pushrod length for proper geometry

(4) guide plates if the rockers werent self aligning (then the correct pushrods for guideplates)

If any one of these arent right then there could be a problem.
