Default brake hoses oem vs ss braided

Its time for me to change the brake hoses that goes to the caliper as they look old and cracked (no leaks by the moment). My question is if its worth replacing the oem set (rubber hoses) by the ss braided ones that cost almost double? any difference in pedal feel or will they last longer?
Thanks...

There typically is a significant difference in pedal feel - much firmer. They will last longer, if 15-20 years isn't enough..... Well, that's what the originals were good for - who know with some of the crap we get these days.

If the $$ won't break your budget, I say the braided are well worth it.

Definitely braided. IMHO Goodridge (not Goodrich) are the preferred brand.

It's possible, but you'd need to ask them to know for sure. I got mine from Guldstrand. Nothing against other reputable brands, just saying Goodridge is the one most hardcore types like myself swear by.

Braided stainless hoses are probably not DOT approved for highway use and the stainless steel braided cover can fatigue from all that flexing. People do use them on the street and report firmer braking action. SSBC recomends running your hand over them every 5000 miles or so to check for sharp wires and replacing them if you find issues. The inner tubes are probably just plastic.

Just some things to consider.

Ecklers quote that ss braided ones meet federal regulation standars. But is good to keep and eye on them ....

Goodridge are also available from VBP and they are DOT approved and come with a lifetime guarantee. The Goodridge G-Stop High Performance Brake Line set was not all that much more than an OEM rubber line set. I got an extra 10% off at the time for being a member of this forum. Not sure if they still do that now.

NEVER Run your bare hand over a braided line or stranded cable EVER.
Use a cloth rag wrapped lightly around the line or cable. That way if there is a frayed strand it'll catch on the rag and not run the strand into your flesh.
A stainless shard ran into your skin gives a incredible burning sensation.

This is a common method for aircraft maintenance where braded lines and cables are plenty.

Yes running your hand over a frayed strand that you did not see will let you know its there use a rag.

I think the braded lines are a nice upgrade and a must if you are running a hydroboost and they add a little bling.

They are if you buy them as such! I have always run DOT approved Russell's on my cars and bikes.

My originals lasted 56,000 miles. I replaced with zips stainless over neoprene last year and noticed a difference in pedal firmness, My opinion is they are well worth the added expence plus they look great!

For a good example of how well those little wires will slice your hand, go to your local Deli and watch the meat slicer at work! One of those wires will open your hand like stepping on a banana.
