Ive got the rear out to fix leaks. I plan on getting a shop to fit a new bearing kit and new carbon fibre clutch plates. Anything else I should order?

One of the side yolks has a stripped thread and the previous owner fitted a longer bolt with a nut. Zip advertise an uprated side yolk that is drop forged, heat treated from "aircraft quality steel". Are these worth getting? I cant afford a Toms rear.

Car will be street only driven and have a mild 540 manual.

Maybe get the Tom's yokes and spider gears to go with it. BIG improvement over much of the cheaper imported junk.

Why not the fibre clutches?

How much are the Toms yolks and spider gears, does he have a website or email address. Phoning (in the middle of the night) is too hard from Australia.

I think I'd get the heavy duty cover. Maybe it's my dumb luck, but I have two BB 73 Vettes and both had cracked rear covers. One was a small crack only noticable from the inside. Van Steel or VB&P has it,..about $90.

They won't last too long. They will smudge right in your fingers. The ones you want to use are the steel GM clutches (not the snowflake ones).

GM steel plate kit 64-80 483722 includes both the discs and the guides. Soak them over night in fluid with GM additive.

Also get the two side plates 3869320 and four springs 3890899

GM at least until 1990 or so also offerred a heavy duty set of spider gears for the diff. They were listed as "heavy duty, L88/ZL1" in the GM power book at that time. I do not have that now but someone else might. I have the posi above and the spider gear kit in a factory posi case I deburred and had shot peened (local machine shop that also shot peens connecting rods). I have it behind a stout big block with stick shift since 1992 and I have never had it apart. Also running 275 wide Gatorback tires.
