Default Dual SPAL Fans - Final chapter

For people who didn't see the last chapters, it's here :

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2040423

and here :

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2046163

And now the final assembly pictures :

You will notice my new home made aluminium water pump pulley ( Al 7075 ) and the controller just below :

I bought 2 days ago a new alternator, CS-130 ( 105 A ), even if the stock alternator seems to charge correctly with the 2 fans on
It's still the stock alternator on the pictures, I will install the new one next week...

Good work. You will like the ease of the CS130 install, and I like the fact that even a 100 amp CS130 has 60 amps at idle, which is twice as good as a comparable SI alternator. No battery draining when sitting at a light.

Yes, so am I, what is the position of the wire you are drawing the main fan power from..??? off the alt direct, off the horn relay/main power distribution point, or the battery off itself or the heavy starter post directly ??? what/how is the ground handled????

do you take it off the frame or the alt/engine directly???

Gene, looks like it coming from the big *** capacitor in the rear connected to the battery

That would act as a pulse integrator, nothing else....a buffer if you will....

it will never have the sink of a battery on voltage/current/power dives/surges....so I am wondering about the specific wiring practice he is using....I realize the schematic says BAT on it....

Don't even start it until you replace that glass fuel filter. A disaster waiting to happen. People who sell those should be locked up.

That is a nice looking installation! I went with the CS144 alternator when I put my fans in, but I have a bunch of other electronics as well. The 130 probably would have worked for me. I also upgraded the 10g power wires from the starter and to the alternator with 8g, installed new fuseable links etc.

I thought many times about changing this glass fuel filter under the hood... and never made it...
Maybe it should have been the first thing to do on the car...

So I think I will order a FRAM HPG1 fuel filter on Monday at Summitracing

http://store.summitracing.com/largei...g=frm-hpg1.jpg

There is always something to do on our 'Vettes

Question : Should I put the new fuel filter under hood or near the electric fuel pump ( near the gas tank ) ?

Awesome job!!!!! you do fantastic work. I always say that if you are going to do it, do it once and do it right and you will never let yourself down.

One comment though, I would change that air filter ASAP. I have had three of them over the past 20 years (look cool as hell) and they have never worked for me. One back fire or a little fuel splashing around and it will melt the foam filter and drip down into your throttle body.

Otherwise awesome looking car!!

This is exactly what happened to me. These foam elements hate backfires !
So if you look at the picture below, you will notice that there is no more foam element :
I replaced it with a thin stainless steel wire netting ( made for competition carburetted sports car without air filters ) and a K&N stubstack below ( invisible on the picture ). I just kept the external parts of the stock Edelbroke filter for the look

I put a filter before the pump back by the gas tank AND a finer filter after the pump before the fuel rails and used the high dollar Peterson and Jegs billet filters respectively. The are $100 each, but re-usable and for the efi setup I needed them to flow well. Might be able to go a lot cheaper with the lower pressure of a carb.
