Default Hot Air In Car

I had viewed a thread some time ago about hot air coming in the vents. The vents not closing properly or something to that affect.
I get an almost unbaerable amount of heat on a warm day. is it possible a vent is stuck open?????.

I had a similar problem with the fresh air vent in the passenger side kickpanel. The vent door and actuator were fine, but the duct's seal was cracked and deteriorated inside the body panel. Hot air was coming in from the engine bay. I resealed it with automotive window sealer (read it on another thread). Pull the kickpanel, make sure the door moves when you change the vent settings, if the door works, look inside with a flashlight. You'll see where the duct seals right to the body panel. Good Luck!

Check the plenum door up under the hood on the passanger side. It's where the wipers are behind a screen. There is a vacum operated door there. Mine was stuck open because the vac hose was pinched. If it does not close major amounts of hot air are sucked in. Shut off valves on the heater hose will help too.

I like the shut off valve idea too! I think I'm going to do it as an extra precatuion; only drive in warm weather anyway. Could you post or pm a pic for reference?

The Home Depot solution on my 1967. Remember garden hose is 5/8".

I just put a valve in the coolant line this morning. Home Depot...3 parts: the valve (3/4 inch) $8.90 and two hose fittings $4.20 each...the hose fittings allowed the 3/4 inch valve to fit the 5/8 coolant hose. This cut the heat entering through the floor vents by 50%. I still have heat through the vents, I am not sure how that is happening.

Is the heater hose 5/8 or 3/4? I was thinking something like This Valve would be perfect, but obviously only if the hose is 3/4.

I put in the shut off valves in both heater hoses and it helped, but I still got hot air in the summer. I went to Lowe's and bought some peel and stick rubber door seal material and put it on top of the cowl in front of the wipers so that the hood seal closed against it for a tighter seal. It stops almost all the hot air from the engine compartment that comes over the cowl and feeds right into your air intakes for the interior vents.

Well i went to home depot and got the shut off valve and as i was standing over the engine getting ready to put the valve in line, I asked myself why I wasn't just running the upper hose to the outlet on the water pump completly bypassing the heater. So I did. It works great, and know I have this great shut off valve for a rainy day.

Thanks for all the input.

You probably should reconnect it occasionally and circulate that water out of the heater core. That's one of the reasons I used a valve, so I could flush the core periodically. You may also still need to stop that hot air from coming from the engine into your vents.

I put two valves in. This set-up makes it very easy to flush the heater core - recommended once a month.

I put two valves in last summer. What a difference now my wife isn't afraid to set her feet or a water bottle on the floor, she was afraid the water would boil last summer. The valves are great because you can reopen at any time.
