what is birdcage
I here all this talk about birdcage. I am looking for a corvette and i know places to look for frame promblems can somebody tell me what the birdcage is and maybe some pics if you have them

here is one from a C3
The most problems are around the windscreen and the a pillars,take of the panel in front of the door in the car and look there,if you have much rust there ill bet there is more problems

One of the critical places to look for Rust in the birdcage is on top of the No 2 body mounts. They are behind the kick panels in the front. There is 1 or 2 screws that hold them in. There may be either some surface rust in there, Or there might be rust flakes laying in there. The flakes are the problem indicator. It means there is substantial rust in the lower windshield frame corners and or the frame uprights.
Get in there with a flashlight and inspection mirror, your going to be looking Up thru the door mount pillar.
