Okay here is my father's day.Took my car out for abut 15 minutes jumped on it a couple of times.Turned on to the highway was gonna let it loose for the first time since i got the new motor and the engine miss fixed.I noticed the rear swaying a little and pulled over-2 lugnuts and studs mising-uh oh tighted the 3 left and headed home.Jacked the rear up removed tire and tried air hammer and hammer and punch to remove the 2 broken flush studs. Not happening i've removed them before but cant get them to budge. Here is the scary part while im air hammering and trying to pound out the 2 studs,2 more studs just fall to the ground-again broken flush.I have never seen anything like it-thankgod they didnt break on the highway at triple digits. So any secrects on how to remove the dam studs, since and airhammer doesnt budge-or a hammer and punch.Im thinking sledge hammer and a brave hand to hold the punch will get them loose, maybe some heat.

I Would Not Use Heat. I Would Drill Them Out. Start Out With A Center Punch To Center The Hole You Want To Drill, Make Sure The Broken Studs Are Flush Even If You Have To Grind Them Down Flush! Using A Drill Bit Half The Diameter Of The Stud,Drill A Hole In The Stud. Take Your Punch And Big Hammer And Try Knocking Them Out. If They Don't Come Out, Step Up A Couple Sizes On Drill Bits And Drill A Bigger Hole. Try The Hammer And Punch Again. I Would Also Use PB Blaster To Help The Situation. This Method Has Worked For Me More Than Once. Peace Out Lynn
If it's not already too late, try 'backing up' the back side of the hub face with a thick piece of steel while you blast away with the air hammer-all the energy from the hammer is being dissipated through the hub without anything to back it up. By putting some weight behind it, you allow all the energy from the hammer to be concentrated on the offending studs. As for the cause, methinks your lug nuts are bottoming out against the hub- check the shoulders and make sure they're not too deep for the wheels you're using.

Ok center punched and drilled out with smaller bit, then larger.Tapped them with air hammer and right out-thank's never had to drill em out before and ive replaced a bunch of them.Ok next question the stock ones are 7/16ths i think do they make a stronger 7/16ths stud or do i have to drill out and go to 1/2 inch to have peace of mind.I think its the first problem of to much power to the rear wheels-that im seeing. But id rather have something in the rear end break than to have wheels flying off on the highway.
CORVETTE744. GLAD TO KNOW YOU GOT THE BROKEN STUDS OUT. I BOUGHT SOME ARP STUDS FROM JEGS. I CALLED THEM TOLD THE GUY WHAT MY APPLICATION WAS AND HE HOOKED ME UP WITH THE RIGHT STUDS.
