Default Headers / Exhaust

I am looking at the Jegs headers for around $90 bucks. Has anyone tried the exhaust kits they have that include several different pipes (straights and bends)? Will they work on a 75 vette. The problem I am having other than cash is getting the car to a muffler shop with open headers. I could pay for a tow but would rather not. Thoughts?

I have the cheap summit ones and they fit, very well too. I used some stuff from corvette central and some random bends and straights to fab the rest up to my pypes mufflers. I would think you would be able to use one of those universal kits to make up a system. Does your cross member have 2 holes for true duals or is it a single hole?

How far is the header shop.....

I drove mine about 10 miles with open headers in peak hour morning traffic.....
It wasn't too loud at idle, but each time I needed to take up the gap in traffic..... woooo-oh!

Interesting the various looks I got...
The younger drivers were all
The older middle aged guys were intrigued..
whereas the old grannies were absolutely shocked and abusive.... must have overloaded their hearing aids

I was lucky not to get pulled over, but I WAS on my way to the exhaust shop. And I wasn't driving like an idiot.
Age does have it's advantages....

Even if I got defected, I figured I would still be able to drive to a place of repair.

If it's NOT too far, just take the risk.
Don't drive foolishly though. At least make it appear you are trying to do the responsible thing.
Hopefully common sense will prevail if you get pulled over.

Otherwise, you need a tow.

Yup. Drove mine. Mine is a 76, and it's not THAT loud. No louder than a bike screaming through the neighborhood in low gear, and we got tons of those idiots around here. And yes, the summit headers we probably the easiest thing I have done to darn thing, which made my neighbor green with envy. He has hooker headers on a 454, and it took him about........10 hours, to do?

I see Jegs headers are same price but are 16 guage vs. 18 guage of Summit. Does it make any difference?

Also I need to talk to the muffler shop but should I expect them to have everything to attach to the headers or do I need to bring some items? I am considering getting the mufflers I want and taking to them.

Thirdly should I run 3" pipes all the way back or reduce? This is the stock engine.

3" pipes all the way back would be unnecessary and overkill on a stock engine. I'd do 2.5".

i have summit headers with 2.5 all the way back to flowmasters. i love the sound. 2.5 would be best size especially for future mods. i drove my car to shop no problem loud as heck but it was funny getting all the looks from people. i supplied aluminized pipe i bought from scrap yard that was new. the muffler shop just charged me for labor and i saved money. just an idea

I just spoke to the muffler shop. They want $750 2.5" dual for 2 times through flowmasters and $830 for 3 times through flowmasters. This seems kind of high to me although I do believe it will be a welded system. Thoughts on price?

Also in response to an earlier question - my cross member does have two holes for dual exhaust.

I have the same problem.

I just installed a new engine and have added headers and the muffler shops are 30 mins away both of them. Here the cops are so strict that i don't even think of driving it the shop. I just bought 2 1\2 flex pipes from Canadien tire and will bolt them just to get there and have my pipes done the right way.
