I have an agreed value on my corvette from a classic insurace place out of state but in North Carolina you have to have at least liability insurance from a company based in the state. I was thinking of changing my liabilty to GMAC. Does anyone have or know anything about them? Are they good on claims?
The law probably states something like auto insurance must be written through a carrier registered in the state. As long as your classic carrier is registered to sell their products in NC, you should be fine.
I've never heard of a state stating you must buy only from a carrier "based" in your state.
"Based" means their home office is there.
"Registered" means their home office is located elsewhere, but they are registered with the state department of insurance to sell their products there.
I work for Nationwide. We're based out of Columbus, OH, but we have one of, if not the largest, market share in NC.
Maybe your misunderstanding?
It's probably registered then. I have american collectors that is in NJ and they cannot give me liability only agreed value. So i have to insure it with another carrier. Is there another classic car insurance company that ca give agreed value and is registered with North Carolina?
All I hear are good things about Hagerty so I switched to Hagerty last week for our 68. Agreed Value is $65,000.At the end of the summer I'll add the 80.

I don't know why anyone would not use Hagerty . They're business is collectibles.
I've used they're tow service , they guarantee a flatbed in an hour , and three times , thats what happened . Someone touched my paint , I didn't see it happen , but Hagerty gave me 2000 for door , no problem . I didn't have accident report , no police , no nothing . Just my word , and they took it . Wonderfyl company to deal with . I hope I don't have to see if the make good on the agreed value , 28000. I'm paying 260 by the way.
