Rick,
If I am reading your question properly, the front lower portion of your panel i raised about 2" off the door. There is a steel clip that inserts into the panel and bends around and screws into the door. There are also plastic fastners that help hold the panel to the door. The metal clip is the stonger fastner and can be used to secure the panel even with your bow. Good luck

Before you drill a hole through your door panels, try this. I had the same problem and this worked for me.

Buy that self sticking velcro tape (2 inch wide) and cut off 2 pieces (one of the hook and one of the loop) about 4 inches long stick them together (sticky side out) and then peel off the tape and stick to door panel. Then reinstall door panel and press firmly over tape area. This works better in a warm climate. Make sure the door panel and door area are clean to get maximun stickyness. You may have to hold for a while but velcro should give away before the stickyness side does.

Good Luck

My panels were good on the finish side but most of the fastening stuff had ripped through the cardboard.
I fiberglassed the rough side of the panel. This strenthened it and allowed a glass build up to repair the clips that had pulled out and the screws that fit through the panel instead of clamping it.
You could do the same. laminate it flat like you want. Then when it hardens it will stay put. For a fiberglass car it seems a shame that chevy used paper for the doors.
When I put holes in the door for speakers I used instant glue to glue the vinyl down and some of the stock edges that were loose

I suspect what has happened is the same thing as my one piecr removeable hard top for the convertible...the liner vinyl shrunk so bad as it got brittle and cracked that is deformed the cardboard backing material...I took it all apart on a hot summer day, and soaked the cardboard real well, propped it up in correct shape with weights on it, and let it dry in the sun for a couple of days.....came out fine, then relined with polor fleece from yardgoods store.....
your door panels are going to be much harder to work with, the vinyl has shrunk, I"d bet on it....
maybe a hairdryer and soaking the cardboard may work...but don't bet on it....let dry on a hot summer day....
