I originally wrote "dash pad", but meant "firewall pad. Da!
I've just removed my heater box (with AC) to replace the core. Most of my dash pad is missing, but what is there was under the lip of the box, acting like a seal between the box the firewall. The AIM seems to indicated that's correct, but at $180 for a new dash pad, and a gasket kit that shows a separate seal, I'm wondering what's correct? What has everyone else found/done?

Thanks for your ideas.

There is a foam seal for the inside part of the box and a butyl sealer for the outside part of the box. You can see both seals on this Pic
At least for a non A/C heater box. But should be the same for a A/C heater box.
I'm working on a '69. Still wondering if everyone else has/had the firewall pad being used as a gasket between the inner heater air box and the firewall? My new gasket kit (just received) has the foam gasket, but that doesn't seem to be the way it was from the factory.
