I use Accel plugs exclusively and have for years in all of my hot rods.
In principle, as long as you buy the correct heat range application for your engine, I think it should make no difference what brand you buy, but I have to admit that I've heard nothing but great things about NGK plugs. The speed shop that installed my crate engine only uses NGK.
Does anyone know the appropriate NGK plug to replace an AC Delco Rapid Fire #4 plug?? Thanks
Call the NGK tech line tomorrow during business hours. They will use your engine specs to get you the part number for the proper style and heat range. Their techs are VERY good.
I went against everyones opinion on this one. I've had a pinging issue forever. The chevy dealer couldn't fix it and blamed it on the cam & head combo. I switched to a set of 43 heat range plugs and BAM problem fixed! Cost for plugs $15. Being able to slam the accelerator pedal anytime I want with no fear of detonation....priceless.
Do you consider NGK plugs to be high dollar off brand plugs?
Is it a high dollar plug? Whats the price of a NGK? iIf it`s more than the correct AC plug then it must be. Also 'Trick plugs' , are just that. a trick plug and nothing more. Too many people on this and other boards believe the more it costs the better it is. Wrong, not necessarily so...
little post scrip here,.. or run on... how about those multiple tip plugs, how are you going to set them? You cant, Therefore the stock plug recommended by your manufacturer {Vettes, GM} is the best to use. Still on the soapbox, ALWAYS set the plugs at .035. not 040, not 060 nor 080. for PERFORMANCE it`s .035.

No they are not expensive, maybe a bit over a $1 each. I called that tech line for NGK and gave them the specs of my new engine, and they recommended a specific plug for my needs. Oddly, they also suggested .045 gap.
.045 will be all right for relatively stock engines or those with mild modifications. For the down and nasty high HP engines you would want .035 though....
