My '69 350/350 vette AC is blowing hot air. Some years back, I had a temperature control problem. That is, the console temperature roller dial was not working properly. I was repaired.
However, I want to eliminate the dial as the problem. I tried to eliminate the temperature control as the problem by turning the defogger on, and adjusting the temperature control to see if I could sense a change in temperature. I think I felt a change in temperature. But, is this a good test of the temperature controller? If not, what would be a good way to be sure that the AC problem is under the hood and not the controller?
Assuming that the AC problem is under the hood, what is the likely cause of the hot-air problem?
I'm not the expert but check two things. Is the AC compressor coming on when you set the dial accordingly? If yes, are any of the fittings cold? You could have lost your freon.
In addition, your going to need to verify that the AC duct flappers are working and that the seals are there. If you have not replaced them count on them being deteriorated. I think I got mine from Corvette America.
I just found this the other day. while chasing a short. My A/C will run cool not cold and once in awhile it will pump hot humid air. Behind my clove box on top of the heater box is a switch. It's called hot water shut off switch. My switch has a spring loaded button attached to it is 2 vacuum lines. This is connected to the hot and cold cable operated temperature control on the console. When it's on hot the gate is open. when you pull it to cold this gate is suppose swing over and depress the spring loaded button which shut off the hot water and the vacuum lines open the airway for cold air. I don't know if this will help you on your 69. But just maybe something like it. Good Luck!!
