On my 80 vette I have just justed noticing a thumping noice from the rear of the car when I am slowing down to a stop, and as well as a rough riding bounce coming from the rear. I changed the shocks last night, but it did not help. It feels like a spring is bad. Where do I start?
Is the thumping continuous or do you just get one thump when you apply the brakes?
The bounce, does it happen as you drive straight and flat or is it like a wave machine as you go over uneven road?
Have a look at the spring and half shafts. Can you see any broken leafs? Are the half shafts horizontal to the pavement or do they angle up, or down from the rear end?

The noice happens at low speeds. No different if I apply the brakes or not. I checked the leaf springs and the mount was a little loose so I tighten the three bolts, but no difference... The half shafts angle down from the rear end.....
