First thing is, how do you get the headlight doors to go back down after raising them by hand? Here's the kicker - the project I am working on is a car with the motor removed and no electical hooked up. Any ideas?
Second thing: one of the headlight doors goes back down if I push on it. Does this mean that the actuator is bad and I need to replace it?
The doors will open and do into a lock position. IF you can push one down by hand then it wasn't locked. Look up from below. There is a 4" long piovot rod that passes through the linkage and all 4 springs connect to it. That is where the linkage bends to open/close the doors. Give that rod a pull forward and down and the linkage should start to fold up. Then help the light go all the way down to a closed position.
With no engine in the car you can't tell if your actuator is bad. Your system has no vaccum. The actuator has 2 ports on it. When vaccum is pulled on one the rod goes out and on the other the rod moves in. This causes the linkage to raise and lower the lights. Free movement when there is no vaccum and the system is 'open' doesn't mean anything.
