Default A/C Question

Trying to get my A/C charged. Finally got time tonight to check the pressures. I was adding a little freon to get the low side up, when I felt cool air blowing from somewhere. I finally found cool air coming out of the cowl above the blower motor. I did not pull the air box durring my restro. Somehow I feel that's getting ready to bite me.

Anyway what would cause the air to come out of the cowl. I have been ready a couple of threads discussing leaves & trash buildup. Where do I start, & what will it take to fix this problem. I also noticed that my fresh air vent is not opening & closing. This doesn't really bother me, but is it related?

It is probably related. The vent that is located just down in the side of the passenger cowl is probably not closing. Many times the line that controls it was pinched at the factory. I have seen it many times.

You are leaking air at the A/C cowling because someone has removed it and did not seal it when it was re-installed. I had the same problem. Purchase some auto putty and try to seal the cracks - or - remove and reseal.

Sealing from the start to the finish is key in helping keep it all in.

If you still have the factory seals then you can bet they are dust by now.

I used 2" wide double sided seal on my whole ducting system and it cools great now.

It is a long job and you need to do it right the first time so you don't have to come back again,

You can reseal the cowl to the firewall by using windshield sealing rope calk. It will cost you less than $10 and is available at most auto stores. Just press it all around the heat/AC box. You should end up with more air coming out of the vents since this leak would cause a lot of cold air to be wasted. Good luck.

Update,

Pulled the blower motor out and found several problems. While pulling the blower motor I noticed that the blower cooling tube was missing. After that I noticed that the evap drain tube was missing. One other idem I found was a stick in the outside air door not letting it close all of the way. I think that these 3 items have alot to do with the cooling problem.

Does any body know where I can find these items new? I have looked everywhere and no one has them. Contemporary Corvette said he could get me some used ones. Shipping would be more than the parts, but what choice do I have?
