EGR Valve
I have an 80 Vette. It has a 78 350 in it. I just took of the cast iron intake & put on the correct aluminum intake from an 80. I've got it running again but it sounds like I have an exhaust leak on or around the EGR valve. Can an EGR valve sound like an exhaust leak ? If so what can I do to correct it. I googled egr valves and did the test of pulling up on the valve & it kills the engine. Thats supposed to mean it is working.

I don't think it supposed to kill the engine. The purpose of the EGR is to recycle exhaust back into the the fuel mixture for emissions control.
edit: Yes, it could sound like an exhaust leak. It controls the exhaust going back into the fuel mixture.

When I googled egr valves & how they work, one site said to determine whether its working or not that when idling it should almost kill the engine. I did that & it did kill the engine, but I pulled it way up. So i guess if I just pulled a little it would just have almost killed it. So then, should I get a different egr valve ? Everything was fine before I switched intakes.
