Transmission noise, HELP
Put my 78 on the lift on base to investigate a clicking/pecking noise underneath and it is in the transmission body. It is a clicking noise (not very loud) that gets faster with RPM and goes away as soon as auto trans shifts from first to second gear. No change in performance, however, but need to get rid of noise. Anybody had this issue or have any suggestions before I take it to a shop and have them tell me I need an overhaul. HELP.

Yea, it's an outside job. You will see a cover behind the oil pan with (4) 3/8 or 7/16 bolts holding it on. Take it off and you will see (3) bolts holding the torque converter to the flywheel. Take a 5/8 wrench between the oil pan and flywheel and check the bolts. If you need more access you can take the oil filter down and rotate the engine for access
