Default Need hydroboost pushrod help

Just before I started doing something really bad with a hammer, I thought I'd post here.

I'm having a problem setting up my hydroboost unit for installation. The rod that goes from the clevis, which attaches to the top of the brake pedal, to the back of the hydroboost unit doesn't seem to want to stay put. I don't have pics of my unit but found some that should help explain my difficulty.

My unit came with a choice of two different length pushrods. The shorter of the two matches fairly well and attaches to the clevis from the vacuum boost unit nicely. The part of the pushrod that attaches to the back of the hydroboost unit is a ball on the end of a reduced radius rod. You can just see the reduced radius part in this pic and the ball is inside the collar.

The problem is that I can't get the rod inserted properly into the collar. You can just barely see in the top pic that the collar has a slight indentation on the external side put it isn't really enough to grip well. Furthermore, the collar is retracting into the unit when you press on it (as it should when in use) so you can't put too much effective pressure on it. I also can't feel any sort of blind recess in the hole itself.

How is this supposed to work? I considered pushing the rod in as far as possible and then staking the collar or perhaps drilling a hole and inserting an Allen screw. I can't have the rod popping out whenever it feels like it. Please help before I resort to

The ball needs to get past the indents to be retained. I have not ever done this but I'd try making a fork tool (a open end wrench might work) and putting it over the flats where the indents are. This will prevent the piston from pushing into the body. Then try pressing it in.
Also, did you thread cut the end off and thread the rod to make your clevis adjustable?
DurangoBoy put together some HB info that you may find helpful. Send him a PM.........gp

I tried to use a wrench for this but it's an "in between" size. Neither inch nor metric wrenches fit though I might be able to grind one down for the task. It probably is smarter to do this then holding it in a vise.

If you mean threading off the clevis end, yes. i replaced the one that I got with the rod (lke the one shown in the pic) with the forked one off the old booster unit.

I'd try contacting HYDRATECH and ask them.

EDIT*****Just looked at the Hydratech site. They are no longer providing tech support. Here is their distributor*** http://www.classicperform.com/****
Also, Try sending a PM to Jim Shea here on the forum. He is an expert on this kind of stuff.

Thanks guy. I didn't think of Jim, nor the distributor. I did know that hydratech didn't do tech support any more.

Good ideas
