Default Hood cable broke

My cable broke on the passenger side. The hood will release on the driver side only and I can only get my hand in there so far...

I tried going from underneath but I can't reach that high, plus with the AC and all,I can't even see the latch.

Tried going through the wiper area but I can hardly fit my arm and still can't reach far enough, and that screen is in the way and it can only be removed by removing the screws from inside..

Please help

When I still had the stock latches on my '77, same as yours, I too had to try and reach up and manually release the passenger side. I too had A/C and it was a VERY hard reach, but I did manage to reach up and manually trip the latch. It was very hard if I recall, bending at awkward angles...but 'm pretty sure it can be done.

If it's the same as a 78, there is a rubber plug on each side that can be removed and reach in with a long screwdriver and trip the catch on each side. Search here and you can find a picture of what the plugs and latches look like.

Well I do have a plug access point on the driver's side but not on the passenger side, which I think is odd.....Is this correct for a 1980?

Try to find a skinny arm teenager maybe they can reach up and unlatch it other wise you may have to cut it off. That's what a C-1 guy says they have to do to them. Also if you get it open you may want to install manual pull just in case it happens again.

Got it........There is a rubber plug on the passenger side, I never saw it 'cause the wiper arm and mechanism were in the way of my view.I pushed it inside and I couldn't quite get to it so I started the wipers and stopped them at their full extent .Easy access from then on,I pushed the latch and BANG

Sometimes it just helps to walk away from the problem for awhile and cool down a bit.

The problem was the plastic clip that broke off where it screws and it was pulling the whole cable casing...Looks like I need to order a new crossover cable...

Thanks to those that helped
