How long can carb set idle?

How long can carb set idle?

I am getting closer to the point of kicking off the engine. It has sat since 2002. Do you think the gaskets and materials in the carb have gotten brittle and it is in need of an overhaul? It was fine when I parked it, but the poor thing has been in some state of disassembly since. I got a little overzealous in disassembly.

I had a QJ carb set for 15 years on the motor,i replaced the vacume hoses on the carb,tightened the screw's,bolts,and nuts,put 5 gals of fuel in and that sucker started in less than a minute

the carb did not leak any fuel. But i'm sure if i had used it for any length of time it would have developed some leaks

From: central FL, near the beach.

if u dumped the gas out there is hope.
some gas leaves a horrible residue.
others dont.
