Where can I get the best deal on some rear offset trailing arms? What size rear wheel/tires are some of you able to use with these?
Got any pics you can show me either in post or email?
Mountain, SO I WUZ TOLD, they are the same construction as a set of straight stock looking t-arms....but made from 1/4 inch steel plate, and are an open C channel, instead of that enclosed stamped steel rust trapping stock thing.....I wish I had focused in better on them when looking at Vette Brakes catalogue some 5-6 years ago....I bought stock, and IMO--goofed...
I HEAR they allow about another 1.5 inches or so of tire width over the max I got, which is only 3/4 inch---and that 3/4 inch was with moving the e-brake cable to behind the rotor....so instead of a 17x9.5 wheel from a '92 vette, I could have done an 11 inch wheel width from a ZR1.....
oh well....
Talk to Art Dorsett at Van Steel Corvette- 800-418-5397. Or http://www.vansteel.com/
They build the offset trailing arms and double-offset trailing arms. I am running the double-offset which allows a 5.5" backspace without any problems. I also run a 6" backspace on the street with 17" rims and low profile tires, however, a taller tire with some sidewall flex would be rubbing on the frame with this much backspace. Also, you might not be able to run certain rear anti-sways bar with a lot of backspacing.
The VanSteel trailing arms are built well and powder-coated. I was quite impressed with them. You can also have them install a bearing set and forged spindles, too.
Matt,
interesting! I visited Art some years ago, but didn´t notice that he has offsets.
Are you of the opinion that they are the same like Ecklers, VB&P and MAD are selling???
I am planning to buy those offset-arms, but I also don´t know where to buy.
another question: Do you have another number (funny enough: not toll - free! - doesn´t work from Germany!) to call Art?
I have phone no´s from old business cards like:
813-442-7835 and 813-443-2245 but they seem to be out of work......
I think that VanSteel make the offset arms that Ecklers sells. Or at least they used to, but I haven't been in the market for them for almost 4 years, so I couldn't say for sure.
