Default New trans for 63Mako

Just picked up my new trans! Pretty pumped, It is the Chevy-Viper T-56 trans from D&D Performance. I have a Tom's 4.11 and was looking at compromises with everything I looked at. The Autogear M22 I had custom built (Which will be for sale) has a 2.20 low which is a 9.06 to 1 first gear ratio when combined with my 4.11 and a 1 to 1 first was a slight compromise. It had a little to high of 1st and a little to low of 4th. The TKO 600 is a 2.89 first which is really to low in first and a big spread in 4th to 5th or in the road race version not a big OD. I know I will have to fabricate a crossmember adapter and driveshaft and may or may not have to mod the tunnel slightly but the first gear ratio is 2.66 to 1 Giving me a 10.93 to 1 first gear and a .80 and .62 overdrive. And an offset shifter that puts the shifter 2 3/4 to the left and 19.75 back from the bellhousing. NO COMPROMISE!! Here are the specs:

650 lb-ft Torque Capacity

1.125 x 26T GM Input Spline

30T Viper Output Spline

Close Ratio w/ Deep Overdrives(2.66/1.78/1.30/1.00/.80/.62)

Carbon Fibre Blocker Rings

Steel 3-4 Shift Fork

Precision built and blueprinted by D&D technicians

Direct bolt-up to GM Saginaw/Muncie/T10 bell housings

Direct bolt-up to 4-Speed aftermarket steel bell housings

Accepts stock GM clutches,linkage,T.O.B.,pilot bearing, trans. mount

7T GM Mechanical Speedo Drive or Electronic Speedo Drive

Does D&D sell the offset shifter individually? I didn't see an offset shifter listed on their website.

I think so. When I went to pick mine up it had the standard center shifter and Dave went to the shelf, took one and installed it in my trans. Took about 2 minutes to change out.

Nice tranny, but they don't give them away. Just looked at them. I guess you have to pay to play!

That should totally change the car.

Here is a link to the new trans. Yes, it is expensive.

I would have to say that it does seem at first to be expensive but if you look at the things that are positive about this gear box it is not all that bad. As if what is stated is true you can use your original clutch set up which will save you loads of time and funds right there along with the factory bell housing or aftermarket blow proof bell housing. Plus one more gear to grab if you just happen to be out on a very open highway in the middle of no place to run some mind numbing speeds. Congrats Maco

Well, 2500 RPM in 6th is 76.6 MPH. I will still be running on the center 2 bbl @ 75 MPH. That turns it into a good highway cruiser. Price isn't that bad compared to the TKO 600

You will like it. Smooth like a new Vette but able to take more abuse. I bought the Transzilla version from Rockland Standard Gear. Was told by another CF member that G-Force builds them for RSG but I'm not sure about yours. The Transzilla is rated to 1200HP.
Did you repair your car yet? You seem to have my kinda luck!
I was given a thin layer of reflective, air pocket-style insulation from a local shipping company. I used it as a protective blancket over the top of the tranny to help block out tranny heat. Seems to work well.
