Default fuse problem

I'm having a problem with my 74 Sting Ray. The 25 amp fuse in the engine compartment, on the driver's side, about mid way in the compartment, blows, at night with headlights on,radio, and other draws. I've owned it for a year and never had a problem before.Any ideas???

is it the fuse to the high speed position of the heater fan? that fuse should only feed the fan, but bubba may have had other ideas.

Any recent changes? New alternator, new radio, etc. Any other recent maintenance like AC, center gauge cluster, new starter? If none of the above, you need to try and trace it to a specific circuit Like headlights, side markers, radio etc. I don't have a wiring diagram for 74, and do not recall from my own 74 there being a fuse in the area you mentioned. I am assuming that it is an inline fuse, so it probably is not original. Someone may have replaced a burned out fuseable link with the inline fuse. If it is the wire from the alternator to the horn relay, it may be that the wire needs upgrading to deal with a load. You can get a nice wiring diagram for your car from Dr Rebuild to get an idea what your car should have, and to trace specific circuits. Here is a link to MADElectrical which has diagrams for upgrading your wiring when adding higher amp alternators to support higher elctrical demands. Here is a link to that site. http://www.madelectrical.com/electri...evymain1.shtml
