I'm having a lot of trouble starting the car when hot. It just turns over and over but never catches. If I just let it set and cool off it fires right up without hesitation. Could this be a timing issue or something else?
It's either timing OR carb float too high and it spilling over into the carb when it's hot OR the fuel is boiling out of the bowls. Had the same problem and it was the float was too high...adjusted and no mo' problems....

Good Luck!
I don't think the fuel is boiling out, could be wrong, but I checked to see if fuel was spraying in the bowls before I tried starting. How do you adjust the float?

Maybe, but it's a new MSD ignition.

I have a 2" raised Weiand Team G intake...would the gasket make that big of difference? I know it would on a lower manifold but I figured it would be fine with the addition height.
Some one told me to try either higher octane or octane booster. I already run 93 so he said to try adding some 100+ or booster and see if that helps. Opinions on this...
Assuming your 77 has a carb and not modified to fuel injection, just try opening the throttle between 1/3 and 1/2 way while you crank. Don't pump the throttle, or you'll flood the engine. Let your foot off as soon as it catches.

Yes, it's got a carb. I'll try that this evening. Last time I was pumping the throttle. That was when I wasn't sure it was getting fuel.

This will most likely work if the problem is heat soak, but it does not fix the problem. Check your hoses and your evap canister. If the evap system is not working properly, the fumes may go into the carb instead of the canister, making it too rich and hard to start. God bless, Sensei
Look at the fuel system. I had the same problem, fixed it. My fix may not work for you. Try looking at fuel lines getting too hot, is the fuel line too close to a heater hose? Is the line close to the exhaust manifold/header? Look at it close, and I really beleive you'll find your solution there, IMHO.

Try not to listen to this person anymore. A higher octane will have no effect on the engine starting.
