Default Engine rebuild question

I'm rebuilding a 69 vette motor..350/350 L46. Very stock. I'm looking at pictures I took of the assembly and I want to double check that it is correct. With the #1 piston at top dead center and the crank, cam and timing chain installed (basically the whole short block) I see the following: From highest position in the cylinder to lowest I see #1 piston (obviously because it is at TDC) then #3, #5, #7 (similar to a stair case across the block). Then on the passenger side (from what I can tell in the pictures) it is Highest #6 then #8, #2, #4 being the lowest in the cylinder. I know the firing order is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. Is this the correct way the block should look upon assembly?? Any info is greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

From the looks of it I would say you have the crank installed inside out. Flip it over and start all over again.

Seriously, there is only one way for it to go together. #1 and #6 will both at top dead center at the same time.
