Are Q-Jet carbs dated for more than the year? I went to the Recarbo site and they specified carbs with a leading number of 29 (or 39 for A.I.R. carbs) for 1969 GM cars. Would there be a further coding for cfm or actual date of manufacture? I'm having some problems with my Q-Jet and I'm thinking about replacing it. The secondaries won't completely open. I've been told it's the incorrect carb for my 427/390hp engine and I don't want to replace it with another incorrect unit. Anyone know what I should be looking for? The car is a late 69 (10/16/69).
Per Bizzoco's 1969 Stingray Guidebook, pg. 107, you should have either 7029215 if it is a 4-speed, or 7029204 if THM. Sometimes the 70 was omitted. Date code was Julian followed by the a 9 for 1969. In late Sept. '69 some cars were fitted with Q-Jets manufactured by Carter.

This agrees with the carb #'s provided by Corvette Black Book.
My car is a California car. Would that change the fifth character to a 5?
Don't think so. My car is also a cali car - I have the original bill of sale. The Q-Jet that it came with is 7029203 for a 350/300 MT, which agrees with Bizzoco and the Black Book.
