okieday.. so im new to holleys and carbs in general. ive got a holley street avenger system, and the numbers on it are 11075.
first off, if this is not a number that jives with a holley system, where do i find the numbers. second, i really need to lean out the carb. it is runnin so rich it filled the neighbors garage with fumes. (the 2 are immediately next to each other) in any case, it sucks so much gas, its ridiculous. so the question i have, where are the adjusment screws for this. i found idle adjust, but again, im new to all of this. at some time, im going to be tuning this, so any instructions on how to do so would be greatly appreciated
holley has their instructions printed on their website
basically though idle mixture screws are on left and right side.
very small flat head screws towards the front of the carb
screw them clockwise to lean
counter to richen
standard is 2.5 turns counter clockwise from full right.
you may have trash in the carb causing the boosters to leak
while it is running carefully look into the carb and see if it is dripping gas. it should not.
Check to see if your choke is opening right, if thats working right there are two small idle mixture screws one on each side of the metering block they are down low on the sides, with the car idling screw both of them all the way in seat them easly your car should quit running at idle, this cuts the fuel off to the idle curb and transfer slots under the throttle blades, if it dies like it should then screw each idle mixture screw out 1 1/2 turns. The float level adjustment is on top of the fuel bowls there is a nut with a slot in the middle this is the adjustment for the float the nut just locks it in place, there is a sight plug on the passenger side of the fuel bowls. Idle the car loosen the nut around the float adjustment remove the sight plug, adjust the float with the car running you want to just barely have fuel dribbling out the side just enough that fuel is trickling across the lower threads for the sight plug hole, you have front and rear fuel bowls they both adjust the same way. The idle mixture screws ( The ones that are now set at 1 1/2 turns ) turning the screws clockwise cuts down on the amount of fuel. having a vacuum gauge helps.

This is good advice there is alot of info on the Holley site they also have a DVD thats pretty cheap
found the adjustment screws. what will happen if my mixture is too lean?
Screwing them in (lean) to far & It will stall.
Agood baseline is 1.5 turns out. Bottom them in gently and turn counter clockwise 1.5 turns.
I like to find the sweet spot by using a vacuum guage hooked up to manifold vacuum. Slightly turn one screw in or out in small increments to attain the highest vacuum reading doing one screw at a time.
You need to be patient because the adjustments to the screws are not immediately noticed on the guage. Now go to the next screw repeat. You might work your way aroun the card a few times.
BUT b4 doing any of this check your baseline timing setting.
those are a couple of the tools im looking into /talking the wife in letting me get here shortly.. i turned them back out 1turn each... and i wasnt sure how this would really affect it. i cant really drive it yet cause i need tags and inspection, but it seemed to idle ok at 1 turn.. so far it has cut down on the gas smell tremondously though.
