if i am not mistaken i belive the zz4 intake is a vortec manifold and the bolt pattern is different and you would need vortec heads. I would call and ask if it's from a shop or do some more research on the internet..... what part number is the zz4 manifold?
w/o replacing the cam & heads as well I would say it's not worth the effort. Wait - doesn't the ZZ4 use a vortec manifold? If so, I don't think it would even bolt up to your pre-86 heads?
The ZZ4 manifold is a good start (remember that GM changed the angle of the center manifold mounting holes so you may have to do some light redrilling), but I would also add several hundred dollars for a mild cam (Summit 210 -215 degrees intake, 114 degree centerline) and headers. I did these additions to my 77 L48 many years ago and it increased the 'joy factor' by a lot. Good modifications.
If I replace my stock intake manifold with the manifold off of a the ZZ4 will I see an increase in performance or will I just be wasting my time?
No perceptible perf increase on stock L48. Yes ZZ4 intake fits stock L48.
In concert with a cam&lifter kit makes it a worthwhile endeavor ... something like summit K1102 or crane 113932 are inexpensive & a decent match to L48's low compression.
Regardless, your OE L48 intake is not a bottleneck now nor will it restrict a streetable cam with OE L48 heads.
-edit- fill out your profile to include a bit about your car & approx geographic location ... it'll help next time. Exactly which p/n eb perf cam do you have? it like all new flat tappet cams requires new lifters too.
