Default 82 Power Seat Motor Test

Wife just bought an 82 vette. The drivers power seat does not work. We have replaced the fuse and switch but still no luck. Anyone know how to check the motor or what else to check? Need specifics please. Thanks!

First what fuse did you check? Second check the orange w black tracer wire at the switch for 12 volts.Third check the black wire coming from the switch for ground.Fourth if you do have ground and you have 12 volts on the orange then check the leads going to the 3 motors from the switch while operating the switch for 12 volts

Thanks so much for the info! Will do checks that you suggested. The fuse was a 30 amp (metal) for Pwr Seat IAW owners manual.

I recently bought an '82 as well and seat was intermittently working. Make sure to check the connection under the drivers seat to be sure it's snapped in all the way and/or there is not corrosion on the terminals. I fixed about 10 things on my vette of which at least 3 where due to terminals that were corroded. Hopefully you'll get lucky.

The metal fuse is a little circuit breaker, make sure its not tripping when you push on the switch. In other words it can have power on both sides until the switch is pushed and the load of the seat motors causes it to disconnect until it cools and reconnects. Some breakers as they get older break too soon which would mean its bad. Also my book shows you should have a 35 amp breaker.

Had the same problem with my 81. Seat didn't work at the dealers and I asked them to fix it before I picked it up. When I got there, they handed me a relay and said that's what it was. When I got home, it quit working again. After checking everything else and nearly ordering a new motor, I stuck my hand under the seat and bumped the plug in connector and it worked again. I secured that and it has worked fine for last 3 years. Definately check that first.

Think they pulled a fast one on you because I'm pretty sure there is no relay.
