I purchased a chrome t-stat housing. It has an o-ring in the sealing area. Is that all that is used? or should I be using a gasket and sealer as well? or should I just use the gasket and sealer?
scott
it is desisened for - O'ring only....
they say the chrome peels of faster than gas out of your tank,
with the chrome aftermarket oring type,
However I just installed one no problems yet ! 69VETT
I just used a small bit of grease to hold the o-ring in place and all is good. I did however rub the housing on the flat cement floor of the garage before installing to remove any high spots...worked great. Just like a big flat sheet of sandpapre. I have used this on a number of things...Yes I am Polish!!!
Throw it in the trash and buy a cast iron one from Napa. The chrome peels and that thing corrodes on the inside faster than you can say China not to mention they tend to leak and are a bit undersized for the hose.

I agree. Couldn't stop the leaking from the hose connection. I Tossed it and painted my original housing.
I just replaced a chrome one (4 years old) because it was leaking out of the main body. Upon close inspection I found that the entire inside was corroded and eaten through. Like an earlier post - discard the chrome one and by a cast housing (paint it any color you wish.)
