I have a mouse nest inside my duct work where my fan is on my 1979 Corvette. I need to take the fan out and pull the crap out. That little Bstrd pulled my hood insulation down and packed it up inside there. My problem is, I don't know where the fan is. I pulled the console panel off, but I still cannot see it. Is it behind the radio up in the dash, or where is it mounted? Please give your advice and expertise on this one. Thanks....
okay, I found the fan underneath the right fender. But, it looks impossible to get to. Has anybody every removed one of these? What is the best way to get it out?
I removed mine on a 79 vette. you will have to remove your overflow tank. unplug all the wires. remove screws, then pull the blower motor out. Before you reinstall the blower motor it is a good idea to run a bead of caulking around the blower motor to reseal
There are 5 cap screws 1/4" I believe. Use a 1/4" drive rachet, 6" extension and short socket to get on them, you might need a swivel joint, sometimes that helps. Your going to be working upside down and blind. If you got meat hooks like mine its pretty toigh to get to, try and get the wife to do it. Once its all cleaned up get a piece of SS mesh and fiberglass it over the hole in the firewall for the fan intake.

Working blind and by feel. Its not bad and I use a nut driver-mostly.
One thing I would like to caution about-one of the screws is the ground and it must bite into the metal for a good ground. The screw usually is silver and the others are black AND the screw is holding a male spade and will have a black wire attached to it.Make sure when the fan goes back in you pay attention to this screw-(if you put the male spade under one of the other screws the fan might not ground or later on it could lose its ground.)
thanks to all for your input. I got it apart, got the stuffing out, and put back in. I only wish I had read this post before I put it back in. I like the idea of the wire mesh, but, it's done and I'm not going to take it back apart. Everything works so I must have done it right. And yes, I got large hands, and believe me, it wasn't easy. thanks again guys..
