Default Distributer - How loose should it be...

Pull the distributer today just to get a better #1 alignment. I noticed that the shaft the mounts the weights is loose and moves around 10 or so degrees once installed. Is this normal. The whole rotor moves to easy for my liking. Also, should the weight springs be tight or loose?

It would be nice to have on of those old snap on dizzy machines.

Have you checked the play in your distributor gear? Ideally it's supposed to be a few thousandths. Mine had about 3/16" play!! As the distributor gear bounced up and down, the timing would vary a lot. I installed distributor gear shims and the roughness and variabiability went away. Also make sure your weights move freely. I polished the contact surfaces on mine.
