headlight door stuck open
I have a 79 and my headlight doors stopped closing after turning off the lights. They worked absolutely fine and suddenly stopped closing. I can manually close them and when I turn the lights on they open fine. The by-pass plunger under the dash is closed (all the way up). When I turn the lights on, I can hear air leaking from the headlight switch. I have checked the vacuum lines and they all seem to be fine. I did disconnect the switch and I'm not sure if I put the 2 hoses back to the switch the same way(not sure it matters?). I have the factory shop manual, the Haynes repair manual, and the factory assembly manual. Can't seem to find what I need to troubleshoot this. I have searched many forums and find absolutely nothing. Hard to believe nobody has ever had problems with these!!!

The air leak at the headlight switch could mean you have the 2 hoses reversed BUT that wont stop the headlamps from going down.
What stops the lights from going down is no vacuum to the small ports on the relays.

Just this evening as we were driving our '73 to a local Cruise and our headlight covers popped up even though we did not have the headlights on.
We live on a bumpy gravel road and I'm thinking a hose came lose. We tried to use the Green switch under the dash but that doesn't solove the problem.
We don't have any operator manuals since we have owned our less than two weeks and I haven't ordered one. HELP!!! Please...
